Why HBBC exists

Care that is meant to last

The main purpose of HBBC

The main purpose of HBBC is to support the Core North Vision of SIM Nigeria: to reach the least reached and underserved communities through periodic medical outreach to the north; to build the capacity of local health workers; and to support medical students, residents and community health workers to align their professional skills and knowledge with their faith and become missional.

HBBC is a hub that coordinates these efforts, and its Business as Mission model funds the needs of the Core North medical ministry.

Northern Nigeria faces some of the country’s widest gaps in healthcare. Many rural communities have few trained health workers, little medicine, and no clear path to a hospital.

For several years a ministry team led medical outreaches across the north, supporting local health workers and community clinics. Short visits were not enough. A lasting change needed a permanent base that could coordinate outreach, train health workers, strengthen local facilities, and care for missionaries and neighbours. Hope Beyond Borders Clinic was started to be that base.

Business as Mission, in plain words

  1. Step 1

Patients pay for quality care in Jos

Missionaries, expatriates and people who can pay receive a high standard of primary care. People who struggle to pay are offered affordable rates.

  2. Step 2

Clinic income is put back to work

The Business as Mission model funds the needs of the Core North medical ministry.

  3. Step 3

Outreach reaches people with little access

Teams serve rural and hard-to-reach communities in Yobe, Kano and around Jos, including people who have been displaced.

  4. Step 4

    Local health workers get stronger

Training, mentoring and telemedicine support rural clinics and the people who staff them.

A Christian clinic that welcomes every patient

HBBC is a SIM ministry. The team follows Jesus and, away from the clinic, prays with people who ask and works with local churches. At the clinic door, patients of every faith and background are welcome. Nobody has to share our faith to be seen.
